Metro Transit-St. Louis is stepping up security by installing new gates at several MetroLink stations.
Starting this week, riders will pass through new security gates at Emerson Park MetroLink Station. Until a new fare collection is installed with the gate system, security officers will manually activate the gates, Metro Transit-St. Louis officials said in a press release.
Security officers will be present at the other three MetroLink stations in St. Clair County – Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Washington Park and College MetroLink Stations – in weekly phases in September as the stations receive security gates and fences.
The gates installations are part of Metro Transit-St. Louis' Secure Platform Plan. The transit agency is installing security gates and fencing at several stations in Missouri: Delmar Loop, Forest Park-DeBaliviere, Central West End, Cortex, Grand, Union Station and Civic Center.
The agency anticipates that those gates will go into service this fall, with security teams operating them. Fencing and gates should be fully operational at all 38 MetroLink stations by January 2026, agency officials said.
