Metrolink budget proposal has fewer cuts than previous plan

Metrolink’s board has approved a preliminary budget proposal that would include a 6 percent system-wide fare increase, changes to its fare policy and discounts, and service reductions.

Under the proposal, Metrolink would eliminate four trains — two San Bernardino line midday trains and two Ventura County line trains — down from 12 in a previous proposal. The agency would continue to fund the two Island Empire-Orange County line trains and six Ventura County line trains that were previously being considered for elimination, according to the agency.

The proposal will now be sent to the Southern California Regional Rail Authority member agencies for consideration. Final approval of the agency’s budget is scheduled for June, and fare and service changes would take effect July 1.
