Metrolink proposes fare hike
advertisement
Southern California's Metrolink recently proposed raising fares between 3.5 percent and 5.5 percent to help offset increased operating costs. If approved by the board, the fare hike would take effect July 1.
Metrolink fares as based on the distance between stations. The increased ticket prices would be adjusted accordingly.
In addition, the agency is proposing to require passengers to pay all or a portion of the cost to transfer to several connecting transit services. Currently, Metrolink subsidizes all transfer costs. However, some local transit operators are increasing their rates and the agency can no longer afford to cover them, Metrolink said.
