advertisement
Southern California’s Metrolink recently obtained a $9 million state grant to boost security. The funds are being provided through Proposition 1B, a measure approved by California voters in November 2006 to improve transportation infrastructure and security.
The $20 billion measure allocates $1 billion to improve transit and port security. Under the current 2007/2008 state budget, $15 million in Proposition 1B security funds are being allocated to the state’s four intercity passenger-rail systems. The California Department of Transportation’s San Joaquin and Pacific Surfliner corridors will receive $2.3 million and $1.8 million, respectively, and the Capitol Corridor will receive $1.9 million.
