The Southern California Regional Rail Authority board recently approved adding 1 percent to a previously approved 3.5 percent fare hike for Metrolink commuter-rail service in fiscal-year 2006.
Scheduled to take effect July 1, the 4.5 percent increase will help offset fuel prices, which have risen 30 percent during the past year. In fiscal-year 2006, Metrolink officials estimate fuel expenses will rise $1.7 million. The additional 1 percent fare increase could generate up to $400,000 in revenue next year, according to a prepared statement.
