Metrolink to purchase 20 more cars from Hyundai Rotem
advertisement
Last week, Metrolink’s board opted to exercise an option to purchase 20 additional passenger cars from Hyundai Rotem, bringing the total number of cars on order to 137. By purchasing the cars under an existing contract, Metrolink will pay $1 million under market value per unit, agency officials said in a prepared statement.
The first 10 cars are slated for deployment on the agency’s commuter-rail system next month. The cars will feature: crush zones that absorb impact at each end of the car; enhanced bumpers to absorb, balance and dissipate force in case of a collision; couplers that absorb energy to help keep cars in line and upright; reconfigured seat placement in each car; and inward- and outward-facing video cameras.
