Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario have signed a CA$2.5 billion contract with Mosaic Transit Group to design, build, finance and maintain the Finch West light-rail project in Toronto.

The contract reflects payments during construction, along with a "substantial completion payment" and monthly service payments during the 30-year maintenance period, IO officials said in a press release.

The 6.8-mile light-rail line will run along a "semi-exclusive" lane along Finch Avenue and include a below-grade terminal stop at Humber College.

The route will have 16 surface stops, as well as an underground interchange station at Keele Street to connect with the new Finch West subway station on the Toronto-York Spadina subway extension. The project also includes a light-rail vehicle maintenance and storage facility.

The Mosaic team includes ACS Infrastructure Canada Inc., Aecon Construction Group Inc., Arup Canada Inc., Dillon Consulting Ltd., Will Canada Inc., Sener SES Canada Inc. and RBC Dominion Securities Inc.

Mosaic, its subcontractors and suppliers are slated to begin construction on the Finch West project in fall 2018.

Last month, Metrolinx and IO chose the Mosaic team as the preferred bidder to build the Finch West project.
