Toronto's Metrolinx announced this week it has identified the location of a new GO Transit layover facility.

The proposed location is on the Richmond Hill GO Line and better meets the needs of the transit agency, Metrolinx officials said in a press release. The proposed location is near enough to Union Station to accommodate train movement, has available space and minimizes service impacts.

The layover facility is part of the GO Expansion - On-Corridor Works Project, which is part of a multibillion-dollar expansion initiative to deliver two-way, all-day train service on main GO Transit lines.

The transit agency had been planning for a Don Valley location, but that work will now stop, Metrolinx officials added.
