Metrolinx has completed accessibility upgrades to the Eglinton GO Station, the Toronto-based transit agency announced last week. The upgrades are part of Metrolinx’s broader GO Transit Expansion program to add more and improve current rail and bus stations.
At Eglinton, Metrolinx added platform canopies, pedestrian tunnels with elevators to stairwells and platforms and accessible mini platforms to enable level boarding and exiting of trains. Metrolinx also added barrier-free accessibility parking spaces in the southern parking lot and tactile tile edges to platforms.
Additionally, Metrolinx upgraded CCTV, lighting, landscaping, pick-up and drop-off areas, and wayfinding signage. Currently, there are 251,000 GO customer boardings at Eglinton GO Station per year, Metrolinx officials said in a press release.
Eglinton GO Station is part of the Lakeshore East Line and was built in 1978.
