Metropolitan Council awards third major contract for Twin Cities light-rail line
advertisement
Yesterday, the Metropolitan Council awarded an $87.9 million contract to an Aldridge/Collisys joint venture to build the traction-power substations and overhead contact system for the Central Corridor light-rail project in the Twin Cities.
Aldridge/Collisys also will construct the communications system, train-to-wayside communications, radio, and public-address and train control systems with associated control centers, wayside signals and remote-controlled power-operated switches. In addition, the contract calls for building two traction power substations to support three-car operations on the Hiawatha light-rail line.
Work is expected to begin in fall on a computer/control system at Hiawatha’s rail control center.
The Central Corridor line is designed to link downtown St. Paul and downtown Minneapolis, with service expected to begin in 2014.
