On Oct. 11, Mexico City’s transit authority, Sistema de Transporte Colectivo-Metro (STC), announced plans to award a $478 million contract to a consortium comprising Bombardier Transportation and CAF to provide 405 new subway cars, which STC would use on its Line 2.

For its $319 million share, Bombardier will manufacture, test and commission 28 trains sets, as well as design and produce 810 bi-motor rubber-tyred bogies. Bombardier and CAF will jointly develop car shells and train designs.

The manufacturers plan to deliver the train sets between fall 2004 and mid-2006.
