Miami-Dade Transit joins statewide effort to register voters

Florida law allows people who’re obtaining a driver’s license to register to vote at the same time. From July 15 to July 22, many of the state’s transit systems — including Miami-Dade Transit — plan to offer a similar opportunity to their patrons.
As part of a statewide effort, voter registration forms will be available on all Metrobuses and at all Metrorail stations.
"We provide almost 500,000 rides per day, statewide, and it is exciting to think that we might be able to get thousands more Floridians involved in the [voting] process," said Wes Watson, Florida Public Transportation Association’s executive director, in a prepared statement. "The FPTA statewide goal is to register 10,000 transit riders as new voters."
