Editor's note: This story has been corrected to reflect that the agency in question is Metro Transit in Minneapolis, not Houston Metro. We apologize for the error.
Minneapolis' Metro Transit reported a nearly 21% ridership increase in first-quarter 2023 compared with ridership levels in Q1 2022.
The transit agency logged about 10.2 million riders in the quarter, Metro Transit officials said in a newsletter. In March, the agency recorded more than 133,000 weekday rides on average, the highest weekday average since September 2022.
On the light-rail Green and Blue lines, Metro Transit recorded more than 3.4 million rides in Q1 2023, up 26% year over year.
Also in the quarter, Metro Transit transported more than 222,000 rides taken through the Transit Assistance Program, which offers $1 fare to low-income riders, agency officials said.
