Minnesota Senate committee approves bonding bill for Northstar Corridor

Minnesota lawmakers are about to take the final step in making the proposed Northstar Corridor commuter-rail project a reality.
The state Senate Committee on Finance recently approved a bonding bill that includes $10 million for the project. The bill now has to moves to the full Minnesota senate for consideration.
With state funds in hand, Minnesota would receive federal matching funds to complete the 82-mile Northstar Corridor, running from St. Cloud to Minneapolis.
While the full state request for the Northstar line is $123.2 million, including some funds in the senate’s bonding bill would make Northstar part of the legislature’s late-session budget negotiations, according to a prepared statement.
