Minnesota Senate signs off on $60 million bonding bill for Northstar Corridor

The Minnesota Senate recently voted 56-9 in favor of $60 million in bonding for the Northstar Corridor commuter-rail project.

Now, the Minnesota House must pass its version of the bonding bill. A conference committee of House and Senate members then will meet to resolve differences between the versions.

Last year, the state of Minnesota approved $37.5 million in bonds for the 40-mile commuter-rail line that would run between Minneapolis and Big Lake, Minn. The project also has received $44 million in local funds. The remaining $60 million in state funds must be approved so the Northstar Corridor Development Authority can apply for a Full Funding Grant Agreement from the Federal Transit Administration.
