Last week, Minnesota’s Anoka County Regional Rail Authority adopted a proposed 2012 property tax levy of $2.25 million, a 65 percent decrease compared with the 2011 levy and the lowest regional rail levy since 2002.
The authority’s $2.88 million 2012 budget includes $2.16 million for debt service payment for the Northstar commuter-rail project and $75,364 for the Northstar Link commuter bus, which carries passengers between the Big Lake rail station and St. Cloud.
The rail authority plans to use reserves to make up the difference between the budget and property tax levy.
