MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) named Stephone Montgomery vice president and chief officer for the Staten Island Railway to succeed John Gaul.
Montgomery will oversee the railway’s 265 employees. The 14.3-mile, 22-station line serves about 25,000 passengers each weekday.
Montgomery most recently served as line general manager for NYCT’s No. 4 and 5 lines, and oversaw the Grand Central Shuttle. Prior to joining NYCT as a deputy line general manager in 2008, he held a series of positions at MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), including tower operator, locomotive engineer, road foreman, superintendent of rules and air brake procedures and superintendent of Jamaica operations. Montgomery began his career at LIRR in 1983 as a car cleaner.
