The Societe de transport de Montreal (STM) last month awarded contracts to two architectural firms to design the last two stations on the agency's Blue Line rail extension in Montreal.

Les Architectes FABG will design the first phase of Viau Station for $617,667, and STGM + Daoust Lestage Architectes en consortium will design the first phase of the Lacordaire Station for $962,725.

The contracts involve design of indoor and outdoor public spaces, building facades and all finishes.

In November 2019, STM awarded design contracts for the line's other three stations.

Meanwhile, STM yesterday announced that starting in mid-February crews will begin work to improve accessibility at the McGill rail station in Montreal.

The $45.9 million project will include construction of a new station entrance, elevator installations, and refurbishment of the station roof and existing station entrances.

The work will continue into spring 2022.
