Ridership on Nashville's Music City Star hit a record 1,107 passenger trips on Wednesday, slightly more than a week after the service registered a record 1,060 trips on Jan. 4.

Ridership on the commuter railroad has steadily grown during the past year. In November, daily ridership increased nearly 14 percent, from 718 trips per day a year earlier to 816.

And from June through November 2010, ridership increased 8 percent compared with the same period the previous year.

"With gas prices on the rise, more people are seeking other alternatives to driving their personal vehicles," said RTA Chief Executive Officer Paul Ballard in a prepared statement.
