Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PATH) March 13 announced it will install New Jersey Transit/PATH ticket vending machines that accept debit and credit cards in six of the most heavily used PATH stations before a new fare structure takes effect March 25 — enabling more customers to take advantage of multiple-trip ticket economies and discounts.


"Currently, about 42 percent of PATH customers use QuickCards, and we believe that number will double when the new fare structure takes effect," said PATH Director/General Manager Michael DePallow in a prepared statement. "Our primary focus is to expand the options for customers to buy QuickCards so they can take advantage of these discounts."


New fares will put basic one-way tickets at $1.50. One-way fares on an 11-trip QuickCard will be $1.36; 20- or 40-trip cards will be $1.20 per one-way trip.


Today, only two QuickCard vending machines accept credit cards and they’re both in the World Trade Center.
