NFTA gives final go-ahead for fare increase
advertisement
Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority’s (NFTA) Surface Transportation Committee recently approved a 25-cent fare increase for the Metro Rail system — raising the basic fare to $1.50.
The increase is expected to raise revenue $2 million, enabling NFTA to maintain service levels despite increasing property insurance, health care, safety and security costs.
Set to go into effect July 1, the fare increase is NFTA’s first since 1995, when basic fares were raised from $1.10 to $1.25.
