NICTD escalator down for the count

Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District has contracted with Moline, Ill.-based Kone Inc. for $60,000 worth of major mechanical repairs to its Gary Metro Center platform escalator.
Although the escalator is indoors, it is in close proximity to the platform, and captures salt and corrosive elements that melt snow and ice.
Work is scheduled to begin Sept. 6, but no completion date has yet been determined.
