NJ Transit completes tunnel communication upgrade on light-rail system
advertisement
New Jersey Transit recently upgraded the communication system on the Newark Light Rail System to enable dozens of emergency-response agencies to communicate on a common radio channel.
The agency upgraded the system in the Newark Light Rail tunnel to support interoperable communications between fire, police and EMS agencies. Emergency responders can access the channel from their respective department's radio equipment to coordinate their response strategies and share critical information.
The need for the upgrade was identified during a functional exercise on the light-rail system that revealed a communication gap among responding agencies. The project was funded by the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.
