NJ Transit dedicates renovated station to honor fallen female officer

A bittersweet ceremony recently marked the completion of a New Jersey Transit station renovation and dedication of the facility to former Plainfield Officer Abigail Powlett, New Jersey’s first female police officer killed in the line of duty in 1985.

During the $12.4 million restoration, the inside of Plainfield Station was renovated while the outside was demolished and replaced with a pavilion. The project included constructing high-level platforms with tactile edging and canopies, renovating an abandoned pedestrian tunnel, and installing accessible elevators and ticket vending machines, signage, telephones and informational display terminals.
