advertisement
New Jersey Transit recently placed a $243 million order with Bombardier Transportation to design, manufacture and deliver 100 multi-level commuter rail cars.
The contract includes options for up to 176 additional multi-level vehicles, which, if exercised, would bring the total order to $525 million.
The stainless-steel car bodies will be manufactured at Bombardier's La Pocatiere, Quebec, plant, with final assembly at the company’s Plattsburgh, N.Y., facility. Six pilot cars will be delivered in July 2005 and tested for six months. Delivery of the remaining cars will begin after testing is complete.
