New Jersey Transit plans April 11 to host at 10 Morris & Essex Lines stations simultaneous memorial services for commuters who died in the Sept. 11 World Trade Center attacks.

Officials from each participating town plan to plant a tree and install a commemorative plaque bearing commuters’ names.

Maplewood Mayor Vic DeLuca organized the services to honor two commuters from Maplewood, where families of Douglas Cherry and Kirsten Christophe will plant a flowering pear tree. State Transportation Commissioner and NJ Transit chairman James Fox plans to attend the Maplewood ceremony, as do several NJ Transit employees who lost loved ones.

Other towns participating include Bernardsville, Bernards Township, Mt. Olive, Chatham, Millburn, Short Hills, East Orange and Montclair.
