Rail News: Passenger Rail

NJ Transit to advance MOM rail corridor

A working group comprising officials from New Jersey's Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex counties recently urged New Jersey Transit to move forward with plans to advance the proposed "MOM" rail line.

County officials signed an agreement proposing that NJ Transit focus on an incremental approach to create a new rail line from Manchester/Lakehurst in Ocean County to Red Bank in Monmouth County, with a spur from Freehold Township to Farmingdale Borough. The line would connect to the existing North Jersey Coast Line in Red Bank.

NJ Transit has identified three Draft Environmental Impact Statement alternatives for the MOM rail line, but they might not be able to effectively compete for federal New Starts dollars, according to NJ Transit. However, much of the environmental analysis performed to date could be used in a modified proposal, the agency believes.
