On Nov. 8, New Jersey Transit plans to launch weekend rail service on a portion of the Montclair-Boonton Line from Montclair’s Bay Street Station to Newark and Hoboken Terminal.
Weekend trains will start as a demonstration service, extending train shuttles west to Bay Street Station. Trains currently operate only between Hoboken Terminal and Newark’s Broad Street on weekends.
Trains will operate about every two hours to and from Hoboken with stops at the Bay Street, Glen Ridge, Bloomfield, Watsessing Avenue and Newark Broad Street stations.
NJ Transit can provide the new service “without impacting existing train schedules or putting more strain on limited capacity at the Hudson River tunnels, which are under construction on weekends,” said Executive Director Richard Sarles in a prepared statement.
