Last week, New Jersey Transit adjusted some Northeast Corridor schedules to relieve overcrowding and shorten weekday morning commute times.

The agency’s busiest morning rush hour train no longer stops in Edison to provide extra capacity for passengers boarding in Metuchen. Instead, NJ Transit added two express trains to serve Edison that include additional cars. The number of morning express departures from Edison increased from three to four, and headways decreased from between 12 and 26 minutes to between five and 19 minutes.

As a result of the schedule changes, the Montclair-Boonton MidTOWN DIRECT train now bypasses Secaucus Junction and arrives four minutes earlier at New York’s Penn Station.
