Metropolitan Transportation Authority New York City Transit recently awarded joint venture Granite Construction Inc. subsidiary Granite/Halmar and Schiavone Construction Co. a $189.7 million contract to reconstruct the Stillwell Avenue Terminal at the Coney Island shorefront amusement center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
The project’s scope includes reconstructing the station’s superstructure and the Rapid Transit Operations facility, and building a 350-foot-long train shed encompassing four platforms and eight sets of tracks used for five subway lines. Several buildings housing Transit Authority and New York Police Department personnel also will be demolished and reconstructed.
Work is scheduled to begin in mid-October and conclude in April 2005.
