NYCT awards subway-car contract to Kawasaki
advertisement
New York City Transit (NYCT) recently awarded a $90 million contract to Kawasaki Rail Car to build 80 R142A subway cars.
The cars are similar to 520 units Kawasaki previously delivered to NYCT that are in service on the agency's Lexington Line. Those cars are averaging 300,000 miles without any system failures, according to a prepared statement.
Kawasaki plans to manufacture carbody shells at its Lincoln, Neb., facility, and complete final assembly at its Yonkers, N.Y., plant.
