MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) is repairing and improving its Brooklyn Culver Line, including the rebuilding of the viaduct and renewal of tracks, switches and signals.
The $275.5 million project also calls for rehabilitating the Smith-9th station and restoring platforms, canopies and a historic arch at the 4th Avenue-9th Street station.
The project is necessary to rehabilitate the steel and concrete viaduct that first opened in 1933, NYCT officials said in a prepared statement. The current phase of the project will begin this month and is slated to conclude in 2012.
