NYCT completes Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue Station rehab project

A three-year project to rehabilitate MTA New York City Transit’s (NYCT) Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue Station has been completed, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) officials announced last week.

The project included rehabilitating the existing control building, and adding a relocated agent booth, new fare array, new employee areas and a rebuilt staircase to the platform. It also included a domed enclosure and new Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant elevators that link the control building with the platform.

In addition, major work was performed on the control house facade and interior, and the train platform was upgraded. The platform canopy roof membrane was replaced and the canopy deck framing and support columns were freshly painted.

“The refurbishment of the Mott Avenue A train platform in Far Rockaway was a long time in coming, but its completion will make the station more accessible to more people than ever before, and allow traffic to flow more smoothly," said City Councilman James Sanders in a prepared statement.

The Mott Avenue project was part of a $117 million program to rehabilitate nine A Line stations.
