MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) earlier this week recorded the 21 millionth ‘tap’, or use, of its One Metro New York (OMNY) contactless fare payment system.

The OMNY system is installed at 365 subway stations, or 77% of the 472 stations systemwide. Complete system rollout will be completed by the end of the year, NYCT officials said in a press release.

All stations in Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island have been equipped with OMNY fare readers, which allows riders to tap a credit card or mobile device to pay for a fare. System installation at stations in the Queens and Brooklyn is ongoing.

OMNY accounts for roughly 9.5% of all fares paid at stations where the system is available, agency officials said.
