MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) will resume 24-hour-a-day subway service May 17.
The resumption of 24-hour service will coincide with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's announcement lifting the state's 12 a.m. food and beverage service curfew for outdoor dining areas.
The subway system is currently closed from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. daily for disinfection efforts.
On Feb. 15, Cuomo announced that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) would partially restore overnight service on the NYCT subway pending continued positive trends in the city's COVID indicators. A week later, the MTA extended late-night subway service by two hours, moving to the 2 a.m.-to-4 a.m. closures.
