NYCT's online trip planner now includes interactive map

MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) has kicked its online trip planner up a notch by adding an interactive map.

Users now can view any Big Apple-area location on either a road map or via an aerial view. NYCT's subway map can be overlaid on the city maps so users can view various lines and stations. Trip planners also can personalize the interactive map by opening an account, then saving marked locations that can be retrieved for use in future settings.

The Internet Technologies Group of NYCT's Transit Technology and Information Services Division developed the system using NAVTEQ® digital map technology and Microsoft® Virtual Earth's™ aerial imagery.

In 2008, more than 3.7 million passengers used MTA's online trip planner — a 187 percent increase compared with 2007. NYCT officials expect the new function to attract even more users.
