New Hope Valley Railway to mark 100th anniversary

advertisement

On June 4, the New Hope Valley Railway (NHVR) will mark 100 years since the railroad’s first revenue train operation in North Carolina’s Chatham and Wake counties.

Originally the Durham & South Carolina Railroad, NHVR previously operated steam engine and diesel locomotive trains to move freight.

Now, NHVR owner East Carolina Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society operates five trains the first Sunday of every month between May and December to provide tourists a four-mile ride. The society also owns a railroad museum in Bonsal, N.C., which displays cars, locomotives, historic memorabilia and a 600-foot model railroad.
