The Bernalillo County, N.M., Commission recently adopted the Bernalillo County/International Sunport Station Area Plan, which calls for transforming an area around New Mexico Rail Runner Express’ Rio Bravo/Second Street station into a mixed-use retail, housing and office development.
The plan focuses on an area within a quarter- to half-mile of the station. The development will be designed to encourage people to walk to and from the Rail Runner station and other transit connections, and will include pedestrian and bike paths.
Bernalillo County and the Mid-Region Council of Governments collaborated to advance the development plans.
