Rail News: Passenger Rail
The New Mexico Department of Transportation and Mid-Region Council of Governments have added an extra car to several Rail Runner Express trains to accommodate a 23 percent ridership jump in the past two weeks.
Rail Runner officials attribute the ridership spike to escalating gas prices, as well as a new summer schedule the agency implemented over Memorial Day weekend. Through Labor Day, Rail Runner trains will operate into Friday evenings and all day Saturdays.
