New York MTA expands subway messaging system
advertisement
The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has added real-time train arrival countdown clocks or message screens at several subway stations along the 2 and 3 lines in Brooklyn.
Funded by the 2000-2004 MTA Capital Program, the devices are being tested and soon will be available at stations along numbered lines system-wide. The messaging systems already are installed in 11 stations in the Bronx along the Pelham 6 line.
The Public Address Customer Information Screen system is a component of the MTA’s effort to upgrade customer communications across its network. The system provides train arrival messages in both audio and video formats to indicate when the next two trains are due to arrive at the station and their destinations. The system also enables MTA to provide messages to riders about service delays or emergency situations.
