New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority last month named Katherine Lapp executive director, succeeding Marc Shaw, who resigned to become deputy mayor of operations in Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration.



The first woman to serve as MTA executive director since the agency’s creation in 1968, Lapp served four years as New York State director of criminal justice, advising Gov. Pataki on criminal justice policy. And, as Division of Criminal Justice Services commissioner, Lap managed an 800-employee agency with a $214 million annual budget.



She also served as New York City criminal justice coordinator under then-Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, advising him on criminal justice policy and overseeing the city’s public safety agencies with a combined budget of $4 billion.
