Gabrielle Shubert, director of the New York Transit Museum, yesterday announced plans to retire in September. Shubert took over operations of the museum in 1991, where she worked to expand and rebuild the museum's presence despite budgetary constraint and calls to close it, MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) officials said in a press release. "Gabrielle’s leadership has been integral over the past 24 years to the growth of the museum, and its continued ability to reach new audiences through innovative programming,” said NYCT Vice President of Corporate Communications Paul Fleuranges in a statement. The museum has since met MTA's mandate to become self-supporting, Shubert said.Shubert's final project at the museum will illustrate how MTA employees work to restore service after citywide crises, such as the terrorist attack in 2001 and Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
