New name, new schedule for MBTA's Providence-to-Stoughton line

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and service provider Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Co. (MBCR) recently renamed the Attleboro/Stoughton line the “Providence/Stoughton” line and agreed to begin operating more service along the route on July 24.

MBTA and MBCR will add weekend service to Providence, R.I., and weekday service to and from South Attleboro. The agencies also will operate two additional morning peak trains and one afternoon train from Providence, and extend service on three trains from South Station to Providence.

The service changes coincide with the opening of a new train layover facility in Pawtuket that will increase the line’s efficiency, according to a prepared statement.
