Northstar Corridor Development Authority breaks ground on $21.6 million vehicle maintenance facility in Minnesota

On Friday, the Northstar Corridor Development Authority (NCDA) officially broke ground on a $21.6 million vehicle maintenance facility in Big Lake, Minn.

The two-story building will serve as a service and repair center for fueling, cleaning and routine maintenance of Northstar Commuter Rail Line trains once the 40-mile line launches operations in late 2009.

The facility is the second Northstar-related construction project NCDA has started this summer. In downtown Minneapolis, work is under way on a four-block light-rail extension, which will link Northstar to Hiawatha Light Rail Transit at a location adjacent to the new Minnesota Twins ballpark.
