Northstar Corridor commuter-rail line to feature sixth station
advertisement
Make it six stations for the Northstar Corridor commuter-rail system. Yesterday, the Counties Transit Improvement Board (CTIB) approved $9.9 million for the construction of Fridley Station, which previously had been deferred by the Northstar Corridor Development Authority because of cost concerns.
Construction is scheduled to begin early next year and be complete when the Northstar Corridor opens in late 2009. The other Northstar stations — located in downtown Minneapolis, Coon Rapids-Riverdale, Anoka, Elk River and Big Lake — already are under construction.
The CTIB grant is being funded through a new quarter-cent sales tax passed by state legislators and metro counties in early 2008. Anoka County Regional Rail Authority and Fridley officials worked with the CTIB to secure funding.
The 40-mile Northstar commuter-rail line will run from downtown Minneapolis to Big Lake, Minn.
