Ottawa city officials late last week announced the opening of the O-Train’s Confederation Line, marking the expansion of light-rail across Ottawa, Ontario.

The Confederation Line is a 7.7-mile light-rail line connecting 13 stations from Tunney's Pasture in west Ottawa to Blair Station in the east. Construction began in 2013.

The CA$2.13 billion transit project is jointly funded by the Canadian government, the province of Ontario and the city of Ottawa.

The train is expected to carry up to 10,700 passengers per hour in each direction during weekday peak periods, making it the busiest light-rail transit line in North America, city officials said in a press release.

Rideau Transit Group built the line and will maintain it for the next 30 years.
