O'Hare, Midway airports closer to getting downtown express rail service
advertisement
This week, the Chicago Transit Board approved an agreement between Chicago Transit Authority and Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) to study express rail service between O’Hare International Airport and Midway Airport, and downtown Chicago.
CTA has agreed to pay CDOT $2.3 million to have consultants prepare an analysis of operating and planning considerations for the proposed service. The study would include a market analysis, and ridership and revenue projections.
In order to implement the express service, the agency would have to install passenger terminals at the airports and downtown, improve track and signal systems, and install passing tracks.
Express trains would decrease travel time by at least 10 minutes, according to a prepared statement.
