Ontario government to offer GO Transit service guarantee

Starting this fall, the Ontario government will offer refunds to GO Transit riders for late train service.
The government will refund GO Transit riders’ fare if their train is more than 15 minutes late, except when the delay is caused by extreme weather, police investigations, accidents or medical emergencies, officials from GO Transit operator Metrolinx said in a prepared statement.
The guarantee is part of the government’s effort to ensure good transit service, they said.
The announcement comes as Ontario officials recognize 45 years of GO Transit service, which was launched on May 23, 1967. The transit system grew from a single rail line along the shore of Lake Ontario to a regional transportation network that includes seven rail lines and a regional bus service.
“GO has an exciting future. We have an ambitious capital expansion program to move from a peak-hour commuter service to a regional rapid transit service providing all day, two-way service,” said Metrolinx President and Chief Executive Officer Bruce McCuaig.
