The Ontario government completed construction of all stations and stops that are part of the Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in northwest Toronto, government officials announced last week.
The Finch LRT features 18 stops across 6.8 miles in the Rexdale, Jane-Finch and Humber River-Black Creek communities. The light-rail line is expected to serve 46,000 passengers daily, and run on street-level track every five to seven minutes during peak traffic hours,and every seven to 10 minutes during off-peak hours.
Trains will operate primarily at street level, with 16 surface-level stops in dedicated lanes in the center of Finch Avenue West. Two underground stations are located at each end of the line. The Finch West Station will offer connection to the Toronto Transit Commission’s Line 1.
Construction of the light rail and the stations is estimated to cost C$2.5 billion, including a contract for 30 years of track and vehicle maintenance, Metrolinx officials said.
With all major construction for the LRT now completed, testing will continue for light-rail trains and systems to ensure the line is safe and reliable. No opening date has been set.
