On Tuesday, regional and city officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) in Anaheim, Calif.
The ceremonial shovel-turn of dirt marks the start of construction on the $184 million multi-modal transportation facility, which will serve southern California, Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) officials said in a prepared statement.
The center is being built via a partnership between the city of Anaheim and OCTA. Upon completion, which is slated for late 2014, the 67,000-square-foot facility will cover 16 acres near Angel Stadium of Anaheim and the Honda Center on Katella Avenue. ARTIC is designed to serve more than 40 million visitors to the area, as well as 3 million residents. The center also is designed to accommodate future transportation services.
"As our county grows, so must our transportation networks," said OCTA Chairman Paul Glaab. "ARTIC will establish a regional hub for all transit modes, making it convenient for residents, commuters and visitors to utilize our transit systems."
